Hi, I'm Tracey.I’m the owner (and director, receptionist, social media advisor, business services manager and teacher) at Body N Soul Yoga - Just for Kids Yoga. I'm a trained teacher, for too long to mention and still do supply work at schools in the Rockhampton area. I fell in love with yoga for myself in 2004 and later with the idea of bringing yoga to kids.
I was so sure that yoga could make a difference for all ages, that I quit my teaching career, got certified to teach kids yoga, then got my Level 1 Yoga Teacher Training certification and decided to follow my passion by putting everything on the line to open Body N Soul Yoga, in Wandal, Rockhampton. Let me tell you why ... Working in schools, I saw first-hand how busy and stress-full kids can be with social and behavioural struggles (sometimes not their own, but those of their peers), busy schedules, data collection/assessment worries, emotional swings and not having the resilience to cope with all of that. Lets add to that with the physical tension of being expected to sit still. Sitting still is difficult when the framework is not being supported ie. lack of muscle tone = discomfort Enter yoga for strength and tone but, it's not just the poses. Yoga helps kids build strength inside and out. It improves posture, balance, flexibility, and coordination. Yoga helps teach children how to recognise and accept the range of emotions and feelings that they have. To relax and how to destress. This of course can help with better attention and focus to tasks, resilience and confidence to persevere. Yoga can even help develop better sleep patterns. It's a win/win, and sounds too good to be true. But I assure you it does make a difference. Let me roll out a mat for your child in one of my next classes! |
